I-Day celebrated amid security in Jharkhand

Ranchi : The Independence Day was celebrated in Jharkhand with fanfare and amid tight security arrangements Wednesday.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda hoisted the tricolour at Morabadi Ground in Ranchi and spoke on his government’s achievements.

He said a new surrender policy was being formulated to bring into the mainstream the youths who have gone astray.

He also said that the reward on the capture of Maoist guerrillas also has been doubled.

Munda promised to ensure food security to people of the state and said Jharkhand’s growth rate in 2011-2012 was 12.08 percent.

Governor Syed Ahmad also unfurled the tricolour in Dumka and appealed to Maoists to shun violence and join the mainstream.

Security was beefed up in the state in view of threat of Maoist attacks.

The Independence Day was also celebrated in schools and other places in the state.
