New Delhi: Governments have failed since Independence in establishing peace and justice in the country. We have seen all governments and all parties. It’s time people rose up and ask for peace and justice, said Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Umri, national president, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind while addressing an Eid Milan gathering at Jamaat’s headquarters on Saturday here in Delhi.
“People should rise with the slogans of Peace, Justice, and Progress. We have seen governments and parties. In 65 years, all governments have failed in checking communal violence in the country. Until people rose up for peace and justice, no big change will take place,” said the Jamaat chief at the program attended by dignitaries from both Muslim and Hindu communities. He also expressed solidarity with the victims of Assam violence.
“While we are celebrating Eid we are feeling the pain of our brothers who were killed and lakhs others who became homeless in Assam in recent days. We offer our sympathy with the victims of riots in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and other places,” said Maulana Umri. He said Assam has seen greatest ever communal violence though not many people were killed.
“After Gujarat pogrom 2002, people thought no bigger riot than this will happen. But Assam has surpassed. Five lakh people have become homeless, four lakh of them are Muslims. Gujarat had claimed more lives than Assam did,” he said adding the communal violence is not just an issue of Muslims rather it’s the issue of prestige and relevance of the Constitution of India.
“It is not the issue of Muslims, it’s not the issue of killing of a few hundred or a few thousand. It is the issue of human rights and it is the issue of Constitution of India whose prestige is at stake,” he added.
Maulana Umri also expressed his views on corruption and how it can be removed.
“No movement or morcha or dharna or law can stop corruption and people from evils. It is the fear of God which can keep man from doing atrocities, desires and corrupt practices. Only fear of God can bring in real peace and justice,” he said.
