The project was undertaken by the Treasury Department and it has been indicated that 33 of the fields are located in the North region of the country while 17 others are in the south.

These mature or in abandonment fields are those that presented difficulties in the extraction process using conventional technology and requires a lot of recovery procedures.

The abandoned ones are those that, at the end of 2006, presented a great number of closed oil wells or with a low level of extraction.

The estimate production cost in them is of 13.50 dollars a barrel, higher that the normal one of 6.5 dollars, but current high prices in the international market have made them profitable, PEMEX emphasized.
