Baghdad : U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates on Wednesday arrived in Iraq on a mission formally aimed at holding talks with local officials and inspecting condition of American troops serving in the country.
An official source told KUNA that Gates arrived in the northern city of Mosul, coming from Afghanistan, and that he would hold talks with Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki and senior officials.
His mission came as security in the country has noticeably improved since Washington bolstered its military force with some 30,000 troops.
