New Delhi : The Delhi government sold over 42.5 lakh kg of flour in the first two weeks of the inception of the ‘Bhagidari Atta’ scheme which was re-launched Sep 11, an official said Tuesday.
“As per the latest figures available with us, 4,25,168 bags of 10 kg each were sold from more than 400 outlets between Sep 11 and Sep 25,” said a Delhi government official.
Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Tuesday reviewed the status of demand and supply of the subsidised flour.
The scheme was introduced in July 2009 but had to be discontinued in October 2011 when the central government stopped the supply of wheat flour. However, the centre agreed to resume the supply after Dikshit made a request to Union Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies K.V. Thomas in May this year.
The price of a 10 kg pack of Bhagidari Atta is Rs.70 cheaper than a pack of branded Atta available in the market.
Dikshit said her government has instructed the Food and Civil Supplies department as well as other agencies involved in the sale of Bhagidari Atta to immediately demand more bags after exhausting their stock.
Atta is being sold through more than 400 outlets like Kendriya Bhandar, National Agricultural Cooperative and other spots determined by Delhi legislators.
