Why didn’t Mamata oppose FDI while in NDA, asks CPI-M

Kolkata : The West Bengal CPI-M Monday questioned why Mamata Banerjee did not oppose the NDA government when it introduced FDI while the Trinamool Congress was the NDA’s ally.

The CPI-M said Trinamool Congress chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Banerjee’s stand on FDI in retail was aimed at confusing people through her “pseudo left” politics.

“Banerjee never cared to oppose when FDI was first introduced by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government. Her party was an NDA partner then. So why is she opposing it now,” CPI-M West Bengal state secretary Biman Bose said at a rally organised by the party’s North 24 Parganas district committee.

“Her only aim is to confuse people, to mislead them into thinking that she is part of the movement against FDI. She also wants to showcase what she claims to be her pro-people politics,” Bose said.

“There is a wider conspiracy behind her opposition,” Bose said, claiming that the US was advising her.

“The US has told her that it will be possible to endear herself to the people of this country if she publicly opposes the US,” he said.

Bose said Banerjee did not given priority to protect the interests of poor farmers and workers in the state.
