It is the ninth time that the state of emergency, giving extended powers to the police and army, has been renewed since the stepping down of former Tunisian president Zine El Abidine Ben Ali in January 2011.

According to a communique of the presidency, the communique said the move had been made in spite of the improvement of security situation in the country.

Over the last month there have been several cases of unrest throughout the country, including the attack on the US embassy in Tunis over the anti-Islam US film “Innocence of Muslims”.
