Lucknow: Hundreds of passengers on board the Neelanchal Express from Odisha to New Delhi had a narrow escape Friday after one of train’s coaches derailed in Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur. No one was injured, police said.
The derailment 285 km from here on the busy Howrah-Delhi route has disrupted traffic, they said.
Government Railway Police chief at Mirzapur R.K. Gupta told IANS that a general, unreserved coach located right behind the engine derailed.
Railway officials said more than 12 trains going towards New Delhi have been halted due to the mishap.
Efforts were on to clear the tracks, an official said.
