Nine arrested for grabbing land in Delhi

New Delhi : Nine people, including a woman, were arrested for using forged documents to grab land meant for the evictees of a demolished slum cluster here, police said Sunday.

“Sunil Kumar, Dharmender, Rajesh, Joginder, Praveen, Mohinder, Suresh, Ram Kumar and Asha Sharma were arrested Saturday from different parts of the capital,” said Additional Commissioner of Police V. Renganathan.

Police had received a complaint filed by residents of the resettlement colony in June 2002.

The arrested people got plots allotted in their names at the resettlement colony in west Delhi’s Bakkarwala by using forged documents to show themselves as evictees of a slum cluster demolished at Raghubir Nagar in west Delhi, said the officer.

“More arrests are likely in the case,” Renganathan said.

According to police, the complaint was filed June 9, 2002 by Anand Kumar Pardhan and other residents of the resettlement colony.
