New Delhi : President Pranab Mukharjee, on the occasion of Children’s Day Wednesday, conferred awards on children who have achieved outstanding positions in different fields.
Awards were also given to people and institutions who have worked for the welfare of children.
The National Award for Exceptional Achievement was instituted in 1996 for children aged between four to 15 who have shown exceptional achievements in areas, including academics, arts, culture and sports.
The ministry of women & child development organised the function.
Harsh Bandhey was given a gold medal with a cash prize of Rs.20,000. Twenty-five other children were given silver medals and Rs.10,000 each.
Children’s Day is celebrated to mark the birthday of the country’s first prime minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.
