Health Minister A.K. Walia set up a four-member committee committee led by Maulana Azad Medical College dean Arun Kumar Agarwal.

Walia said the system would be overhauled based on the status and requirement of each hospital.

The committee would visit the hospitals and submit a report within a fortnight.

Walia said the committee set up to examine the incident at Shushruta Trauma Centre Tuesday morning had been told to submit its report within three days.

“Disciplinary action will be taken against officials found guilty of misconduct or dereliction of duty,” Walia said.

The deaths occurred at Sushrut Trauma Centre around 6.45 a.m. when the hospital’s centralised oxygen supply was disrupted due to the fault of an operator.

The supply could not be restored leading to the deaths of four of the five patients in the intensive care unit.
