Vinod Rai re-elected head of UN external auditors panel

New Delhi : Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) Vinod Rai has been re-elected chairman of the panel of external auditors of the United Nations (UN).

Amyas Morse, the CAG of Britain, has been re-elected as vice-chair of the panel.

According to an official statement issued here Wednesday, the panel of external auditors plays an important role in promoting accountability and strengthening governance mechanisms in the UN organisations.

The panel meets annually to discuss emerging issues in the audit of UN specialised agencies such as the World Health Organisation, the World Food Programme, the World Intellectual Property Organisation, and the International Atomic Energy Agency.

The panel currently comprises of Canada, China, France, India, Italy, Pakistan, the Philippines, Switzerland, Tanzania and Britain with India’s official auditor as the current chair of the panel.

Formed through a resolution of the UN General Assembly in 1959, the panel comprises of individual external auditors who are heads of supreme audit institutions of various countries.
