Five killed in Assam bus accident

Guwahati : At least five people were killed and 30 injured, 12 of them seriously, in a head-on collision Tuesday between two passenger buses in Assam, officials said.

A police official said the accident took place near Kaliabor in the eastern Nagaon district, 160 km from Assam’s main city Guwahati.

“Two passenger buses coming from opposite directions collided, in which five people, two of them college students, died on the spot,” the official said by telephone.

At least 30 passengers were injured, 12 of them seriously. “There were a few college students among those injured in the accident. A group of students boarded the bus before it met with the accident,” the officials said.

Two of the killed were students of the Kaliabor College. The injured were admitted to a local hospital.
