NYSE opens Beijing office to support Chinese listings

By DPA

Beijing : NYSE Euronext, the holding company of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), opened an office in Beijing Tuesday to “advance the company’s brand and service to its listed companies in China.”

“It is an honour for the NYSE to be the first foreign exchange to have approval to open a representative office in Beijing,” NYSE Euronext chief executive officer Duncan Niederauer said in a statement before the opening.

The NYSE has 38 listed companies from mainland China, including 16 new listings this year, the statement said.

“I think it has been a terrific year for us with companies coming here from China,” Niederauer told media.

“For the Chinese companies, who have global ambition, whose products are sold outside Asia, I don’t think there is a better place they can be listed,” he was quoted as saying.

Niederauer said he hoped the Beijing office would enable the NYSE to be a “more effective partner” with “more success in 2008 and beyond”.

Niederauer hosted Tuesday’s official opening, which was attended by Chinese and US officials including US Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson.
