Washington: Former US president George H.W. Bush remained hospitalised Wednesday, but the fever which kept him in the hospital over Christmas was gone, an official said.
According to The Houston Chronicle, Bush’s spokesperson Jim McGrath said doctors at the Houston hospital where Bush has been treated for a month remain “cautiously optimistic” that the ex-president will recover”, Xinhua reported.
However, no discharge date had been set, he added.
McGrath said doctors were cautious because Bush is already 88 years old and “sometimes issues crop up that are beyond anybody’s ability to discern or foretell”.
Bush was initially hospitalised Nov 23 with bronchitis and has remained there with what his spokesman described as a “lingering cough”.
