Robbers shoot shopkeeper in Delhi

By IANS,

New Delhi: A 45-year-old man was shot dead when he tried to stop two people from robbing his flour shop here Saturday night, police said Sunday.

Naresh Sharma was shutting his shop in Kamruddin Nagar in Nangloi in west Delhi when two young men barged in with guns, said a police officer.

There were three workers in the shop too.

The duo asked Sharma at gun point to open the cupboard containing cash. When he resisted, one of them shot him in the abdomen.

They then took around Rs.2 lakh and fled, police said.

Sharma was taken to a hospital but was declared brought dead.

“We have registered a robbery and murder case against unidentified people but investigating the case from all possible angles,” Additional Commissioner of Police V. Renganathan told IANS.

He suspected involvement of more than two people in the crime.

“It looks like a robbery, but there might be something more sinister behind it,” a shopkeeper near Sharma’s shop said.

“He was owed money to some people. One of them might have helped the assailants if not planned the episode,” said the shopkeeper, who did not want to be named.

But police said Sharma recently fought with two boys for drinking outside his shop.
