Surjeet Puri was alone at her ground floor residence when the robbers forced their way in Wednesday afternoon.

“The search is on for the culprits,” a police officer said.

Surjeet is the mother of Deputy Permanent Representative to United Nations, Manjeev Singh Puri, and aunt of Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations Hardeep Puri. She is the wife of former chief secretary of Punjab S.S. Puri.

According to police, the two robbers rang the bell of her house Wednesday afternoon and said they were distributing some pamphlets.

She did not open the door completely and kept the safety latch on. When she tried to close the door, the two men forced it open, breaking the chain.

She was found when her driver came to take her to Gymkhana Club.

The robbers appeared familiar with her routine, police said.

The woman was taken to AIIMS for treatment of injuries to her face.
