Delhi Police Oct 30 rescued the children from Shahpur Jat area while they were working in inhumane conditions.

The court also asked the central government to make a comprehensive rehabilitation policy for such children soon.

“There is an urgent need for bringing an policy which should include educational and economical rehabilitation plan,” the bench said.

On directions of the court, the children were sent to protective custody of Bachpan Bachao Andolan till Dec 12.

Meanwhile, the parents of the children arrived from West Bengal to take custody of the children.

Ashok Agarwal of Social Jurist organisation had filed a petition on behalf of the parents in the Delhi High Court, seeking the custody of their children.

The parents told the court that out of poverty they had to send their children to work in Delhi.

They also alleged that the agent had cheated them after promising to send them the wages of their children. They neither have received any money nor they could find the whereabouts of their children. It was only after someone watched the TV and informed them about the plight of their children, that they rushed to Delhi to take their children back home, they said.
