“Bharti Airtel, a leading global telecommunications company with operations in 20 countries across Asia and Africa now provides seamless voice and data connectivity to its customers in Kargil, reinforcing Airtel’s pan-India coverage strength,” Jagbir Singh of the Bharti Airtel group said while launching the service in Kargil.

Now, Airtel has become the only private mobile company to provide services in Kargil.

Singh added that Airtel through its network presence across all 22 districts of Jammu and Kashmir will now allow the people to stay connected with their friends and family across the country.

“Given the extreme weather conditions and rough terrains, the connectivity has been extended to the region through VSAT links and specially designed telecom infrastructure which can be adjusted as per the need in case of any unprecedented weather conditions,” Singh said.

“With the connectivity in Kargil, Airtel has covered the farthest destination on the network coverage map of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.

During the launch, Kargil MLA Qamar Ali Akhoon said: “The government has undertaken various measures to improve tourist infrastructure in the region … (but) lack of accessibility and communication during winters, keeps Kargil isolated from other parts of the country.”
