Islamabad, Dec 13 (IANS) Pakistan is all set to lift the emergency and restore the constitution with minor amendments Saturday, an official said Thursday.
President Pervez Musharraf, keeping his promise to the nation, would lift the emergency before Dec 16 and the Provisional Constitution Order (PCO) would be rescinded, Malik Qayyum, attorney general of Pakistan, told reporters here.
He said all arrangements have been completed and the constitution would be restored and all laws that were in place before the Nov 3 would be implemented Dec 15, according to Online news agency.
Musharraf last month declared a state of emergency, suspend the constitution and sacked Supreme Court judges, who he feared would nullify his October re-election as the president.
Qayyum said that certain amendments might be made to the constitution.
He said no power was being given to president in the constitution to sack judges and the press reports in this regard were baseless and devoid of facts.
The official also emphasized that those judges who did not take oath under the PCO would not be reinstated at any cost. There would be certain amendments to give perks to these judges after their retirement
