New Delhi : Chilly winds and biting cold forced morning walkers to stay indoors Friday morning as a thick veil of fog enveloped the capital, severely disrupting air and road traffic.
Runway visibility at the New Delhi airport dropped below normal, holding up many in-bound and out-bound flights.
According to airport authorities, flights to the northern sectors were the worst hit and delays led to a ripple effect.
Visibility dropped to 125 metres forcing the authorities to initiate the sophisticated CAT 3 B landing system.
Many flights were delayed and Air Deccan cancelled its flight to Jammu and delayed departures to Amritsar, Bangalore and Lucknow.
Emotions ran high at the airport as passengers and vacationers were forced to wait for several hours, uncertain when and if their flight would take off.
Train services to the capital were also affected.
