Nairobi: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has given a call for a collective regional action to address sand and dust storms.
Describing dust and sand storms as a “collective regional responsibility”, UAE Environment and Water Minister Rashid Ahmad bin Fahad said all stakeholders should come together to address this environmental challenge.
The minister was speaking during the United Nations Environment Programme’s (UNEP) flagship Sand and Dust Storms project, a regional initiative targeting Bahrain, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Iran, Turkey, Iraq, Jordan and Syria.
The problem of storms was the main issue discussed during the ministerial meeting at UNEP’s First Universal Session of the Governing Council, held in Nairobi.
