Speaker Mubarak Gul told IANS that the hanging was an issue which was being “discussed and debated across the country through different mediums”.

“I think there is no problem if we take it up in the legislative assembly of Jammu and Kashmir too,” he said.

“God willing, the assembly will take these adjournment motions for discussion on the next working day, that is Monday.”

Guru was executed and buried in the Tihar Jail in Delhi Feb 9.

Earlier in the day, the assembly was adjourned after uproarious scenes over demand for admitting th eadjournment motion by opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Ruling National Conference (NC) and Communist Party of India-Marxist too joined the demand.

The PDP started shouting slogans demanding the motion be taken up. Its legislators were led by party president Mehbooba Mufti, who said: “We want an adjournment motion on this important issue.”

Members of the National Coneference, including Nasir Aslam Wani, and the lone CPI-M member Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, too joined the demand.

Despite the speaker’s attempt to bring order to the house, the opposition continued to disrupt the proceedings. He then adjourned the house.

The PDP on Thursday – the first day of the state assembly’s budget session – tabled a demand for an adjournment motion.

“It is the failure and inability of the state government to protect rights of the citizen of Jammu and Kashmir – Mohammad Afzal Guru, who was hanged by depriving him of his proper legal rights,” said the PDP.

Party legislators also demanded Guru’s mortal remains be given to his family for proper burial and last rites.
