Yangon : Authorities in Myanmar have exposed over 4,000 drugs-related cases and punished a total of 5,740 criminals, including 901 women, in 2012, a media report said Friday.
Of the total number of cases, 1,454 cases related to heroin, followed by 1,269 related to stimulant tablets, Xinhua cited the Weekly Eleven News as saying.
Around 335 kg of heroin, 18 million stimulant tablets and 1,470 kg of opium were seized during the year.
From 1990 to 2011, seized narcotic drugs estimated at around $2.5 billion have been burned.
Myanmar holds “drug destruction ceremonies” every year in June on the occasion of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
