Parliament adjourned over policeman’s killing, petrol prices

New Delhi : Both houses of parliament were disrupted and adjounred for the day Tuesday as members protested the petrol price hike and the killing of a police officer in Uttar Pradesh.

The killing of deputy superintendent of police Zia-ul-Haq by a mob Saturday rocked the Lok Sabha as BSP members created a furore over the issue.

The lower house was first adjourned till noon and the ruckus continued when it assembled at 12 p.m., leading to Inder Singh Namdhari, who was presiding, to adjourn the house for the day.

As soon as the Lok Sabha assembled in the morning, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) members started raising the issue.

In the Rajya Sabha too, BSP members trooped into the well demanding president’s rule in Uttar Pradesh.

Samajwadi Party members followed them, demanding a rollback in the petrol price hike.

Amidst the din, the upper house was adjourned too till noon and later till 2 p.m. When it reassembled, the din continued and the house was adjourned for the day.
