After several complaints of baggage theft, the CISF is planning special booths where women commuters can watch their belongings while being frisked.

Currently, frisking and baggage scanning are done at separate points.

“The paramilitary force has taken up the matter with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and the matter is under in consideration,” said Rajiv, CISF director general.

“For body frisking, we will have booths in which women commuters will be able to keep watch over their baggage in X-ray machines,” Deputy Inspector General (CISF) Udyan Banerjee told IANS.

Banerjee said the process would take two to three months.

“There are 80 stations of Delhi Metro where women put their bags in scanners and are frisked in another enclosure. Other commuters also put their bags in the scanners and there is pile up of baggage, which leads to panic among commuters while collecting their bags,” said Banerjee.

Everyday 20 lakh commuters travel by Delhi Metro and all of them have to go through the frisking process. Out of these, 10-12 lakh are men and rest are women commuters.

The problem aggravates especially during peak hours at crowded stations like Rajiv Chowk, Chandni Chowk, Kashmere Gate, Yamuna Bank, Anand Vihar, Rajouri Garden, Janakpuri and Central Secretariat.
