Chennai: A man was electrocuted on Saturday at the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KNPP) in Tirunelveli district in Tamil Nadu, police said.
Alok Sameet Roy, 23, an electrician from Odisha, died when he touched a live wire in a tunnel in the second unit of the KNPP.
He was found unconscious and was rushed to hospital, where he was declared brought dead.
The People’s Movement Against Nuclear Energy (PMANE) spearheading the opposition to the two atomic power plants said deaths continue at the project site.
According to PMANE, a man died last December because of electric leak. Another death was reported in January.
The Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd. (NPCIL), India’s atomic power plant operator, is setting up the project in Kudankulam in Tirunelveli district in Tamil Nadu, around 650 km from here, with two Russian-made 1,000-MW reactors.
