Kannur (Kerala) : A Kerala Police team Tuesday took the elusive rapist Bitti Mohanty, who jumped parole in 2006 after his arrest the same year for raping a German woman in Rajasthan, to Jaipur, according to an official.
Speaking to IANS, M. Anil, the police officer who arrested Bitti, 31, last week, said their train that will reach Delhi Thursday. From there, Bitti will be taken to Jaipur.
“After reaching Jaipur, if needed, we will take him to Odisha and Andhra Pradesh,” said Anil.
“We have to present Bitti in a court here by March 20. Before that we will be doing everything to unravel the mystery,” said Anil.
Kerala Police are investigating how Bitti managed to get certificates and documents in the fake identity of “Raghava Raj” from Andhra Pradesh.
A Rajasthan Police team arrived in Kerala Monday confirmed that the person arrested by Kerala Police was Bitti.
Bitti is the son of B.B. Mohanty, a former director general of police in Odisha. He was sentenced to seven years imprisonment in 2006 for raping the German woman in Alwar. He jumped parole the same year and had been on the run ever since.
In Kerala, Bitti was picked up by police March 8 after the State Bank of Travancore, where he had been working as a probationary officer, raised doubts about his identity.
B.B. Mohanty was accused of aiding his son’s escape and was suspended but later reinstated. He retired in 2012.
