Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar in his written reply tabled during the budget session said 59 people were arrested in cases of drug seizure between January-December 2012.

Among those arrested, 23 people were of African origin. Of them, 17 were Nigerians, while the others were from South Africa, Ghana and Lesotho, he said.

Most of the arrests followed seizures of hashish, cocaine and cannabis, he said.

Goa is one of the most popular tourism destinations in the country. While the state is known for its beaches and nightlife, it is also infamous for easy availability of drugs.
