Jadeja credits Ashwin for his success

New Delhi: All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who bagged his maiden fifer in India’s six-wicket win over Australia in the fourth cricket Test, credited his success to off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.

The left-arm spinner said he enjoyed bowling in tandem with the offie, who was adjudged Man of the Series for his haul of 29 wickets.

Jadeja, who was Man of the Match in the fourth Test here Sunday, said he tried to bowl in the right areas and the rest was taken care of by the wicket.

“I did well in this game. The wicket helped the spinners so I was bowling well. Just wanted to get as many as possible. Unfortunately I didn’t score many runs with the bat, but I bowled well in the series. I’m used to playing on such wickets in Rajkot. I was bowling in the right areas and the rest the wicket was doing,” he said.

Ashwin, who picked up 29 wickets in the four-match Tests, surpassed former India captain Anil Kumble as the leading wicket-taker for India in a four-Test series. Kumble had 27 wickets — also in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2004-05 but for a losing cause.

“Everything has gone pretty well, there were a few changes I had to make after the England series. Very happy at how it has come out. I had to work on my delivery stride. We had very little time, I was lucky to have a coach who identified it pretty quickly. I definitely needed a kick on the backside and they gave me one,” he said.

Ashwin also said that the Kotla wicket was tricky for both the teams.

“It was quite a tricky wicket for both set of batsmen and bowlers, I thought (Cheteshwar) Pujara played a terrific innings today. Satisfaction is not something I intend to attain, hopefully I can build on this,” he said.
