At the upscale Jayanagar assembly segment here, where Murthy and family are registered as voters, an official of the Vijaya College polling booth admitted that voting began late as staff were busy checking machines to avoid problems later.

“I had to wait for half an hour as officials were not ready. They are good people. I don’t blame them, but their seniors who should have ensured things were in order,” Murthy told reporters.

Voting was pushed ahead by an hour, and was to begin 7 a.m..

Murthy was also dismayed that his mother in-law, who passed away 16 months ago, still features on the voters’ list, even though the election office was informed of her death.
