New Delhi: The Congress said Saturday that its Uttarakhand government was providing financial help to every person evacuated from areas affected by the devastating floods in the state to cover any exigencies on way back home.
“The state government is providing each evacuee with an assistance of Rs.2,000 to cover any exigencies on their way back,” said a Congress release, adding the government had also deployed helicopters and additional police for relief operations
The choppers carried out 100 sorties Saturday and rescued 400 people, said the release.
Meanwhile, the public works department has able to open 549 roads and has deployed 364 machines for relief work, while 150 doctors have been posted for immediate medical attention to the injured in the affected areas, it said.
Adequate medicines have been made available in the camps and 100,000 chlorine tablets along with bleaching powder have been sent for preventing disease breaking out.
The power department has sent officials and workment to reinstall power lines in the affected areas, while oil companies have made available 940,000 litres of diesel and 476,000 litres of petrol to the affected districts, the release said.
Congress general secretary Ambika Soni, who is incharge of Uttarkhand, is expected to visit the state Sunday.
