Delhi court sends tax inspector to jail for bribe

    New Delhi: A Delhi court has sent an entertainment tax inspector of the city government to two years imprisonment for accepting Rs.4,500 bribe from a cable service provider who had tax dues.

    Central Bureau of Investigation Special Judge Manoj Jain imposed a fine of Rs.20,000 and sentenced Krishan Sharawat to two years in jail.

    In 2007, the then inspector of entertainment tax department Sharawat was apprehended by the CBI who laid a trap on a complaint of cable service provider Harjeet Singh.

    In the last week of November 2007, Sharawat raided Singh’s office over entertainment tax dues. He later demanded Rs.4,500 bribe from Singh in exchange for help in the case.

    The cable operator later gave a complaint against him in the CBI.
