“We are surprised with how our British partners interpreted a situation around the British Council. The problem was created by our British colleagues. They had put absolutely unrealistic demands for the extradition of (businessman Andrei) Lugovoi,” the Russian foreign minister said, according to Itar-Tass.

“Then, the British demanded changes in the Russian Constitution which does not allow for such extraditions. They did that in a manner, which is totally inadmissible in inter-state relations. They caused a systemic damage to our relations,” Lavrov went on to say.

“It has to be corrected. We value partnership with Britain but it took the first step to create the current situation. So, we are also expecting them to be the first to correct it,” the Russian foreign minister stressed.
