Aligarh: Aligarh Muslim University alumni associations are determined to take the case of threat letter to a current student forward and fight it out at higher levels.
In a letter addressed to the Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, which is written and signed by Tanweer Alam, President AMU Alumni Association of Maharashtra, the issue of a threat letter allegedly received by Mr. Parwez Siddiqui by a miscreant named Ranjit Agarwal on November 30 is raised.
Mr. Parvez Siddiqui, a student of AMU and general secretary of Sir Syed Minority Foundation of India for the restoration of minority character of AMU. Mr. Parvez, under the aegis of SSMFI, has organized many programs in different states regarding the restoration of minority status of AMU.
“He received a threatening letter on November 30 by post. This letter was sent by Mr. Ranjeet Agarwal. He threatened in the letter that he will kill him if he starts dharna at Jantar Mantar, Delhi and should stop the issue,” the letter reads.
Md Pervez Siddiqui, is a B.Com student at the University and General Secretary of an independent AMU students’ organization Sir Syed Minority Foundation of India. On November 30, he had found a sealed envelope in his room that contained a letter threatening him to kill, if they do not postpone their proposed dharna at Janatar Mantar in New Delhi in December end.
The letter addressed to Pervez Siddiqui (misspelled as Parwej Siddiki), had been sent by one Ranjeet Agarwal of Aligarh, through Indian post office. “Leave the issue of minority character of AMU. If you will do the dharna at Jantar Mantar and if you will not leave this issue then I can kill you,” it read.
Speaking to TCN, Parvez had said, “We had announced a dharna at Janatar Mantar, but since AMU VC had written to the HRD Ministry on the minority issue, we were waiting for their response to finalize our date of protest.”
The letter sent to the home ministry also mentions that “AMU Alumni association of Maharashtra took the issue very seriously called a meeting on 2nd December to demand a high level investigation.” It ends with urging the home ministry to nab the culprit and ensure Mr. Parvez security.
A copy of the letter to the Home Minister has also been sent to UP C.M, Chief Secretary, U.P., D.G.P., VC and Proctor of AMU and District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police, Aligarh.
