Gautam Bandopadhyay, 53, from the Indian city of Kolkata, was found dead at the Tiger Building in Al Nahda where he had moved just two months ago and was living alone, Xpress reported.

His colleagues contacted the police after he did not answer their calls for several days.

“His friends couldn’t gather what went wrong. Every time they came to check, they saw his car parked in its usual place and the phone rang whenever they called,” a watchman at the building was quoted as saying.

A cleaner, who had entered the 24th floor unit along with the police on the fateful day, said Bandopadhyay had probably fallen from his bed and hurt himself.

He was found lying motionless on the floor and blood on his head and the floor had clotted and turned blackish.

“He had some sort of a mask on as well. It looked like an oxygen mask to me but it had moved to one side of his face,” the cleaner said.

Bandopadhyay is suspected to have died of a heart attack.

A neighbour said Bandopadhyay told him that he had had one heart attack recently. A former colleague of the deceased said he was diabetic and had high blood pressure.

Bandopadhyay was the head of finance for a Greek-owned company in Jebel Ali but quit Aug 15 to set up his own venture.

Pakistani Saifur Rehman, 27, who replaced Bandopadhyay as the new finance manager, said he was a nice man. He said Bandopadhyay’s mother called him Tuesday enquiring about her son.

“I don’t have the heart to tell her what happened,” Rehman said.
