New Delhi : With the government easing controls on private carriers wanting to fly to the Gulf region, Jet Airways is set to launch daily flights to Kuwait and Bahrain from Jan 5, airline officials said Monday.
The airline is launching daily services between Mumbai and Bahrain, and New Delhi and Kuwait from Jan 5. It will also fly to these two Gulf cities out of Kochi, airline officials added.
“Jet Airways is proud to be the first Indian private sector carrier to fly to the Gulf,” Wolfgang Prock-Schauer, the chief executive officer of Jet Airways, said in a statement.
“With a large number of Indians living and working in the Gulf, flights to these sectors consistently register high load factors,” referring to an estimated five million Indian diaspora in the region.
The services will operate on Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
The Jet Airways flight to Kuwait leaves Kochi at 1940 hrs and on return, leaves the Kuwait International Airport at 1230 hrs. Its flight to Bahrain leaves Kochi 1750 hrs and leaves the Bahrain International Airport at 2000 hrs on return.
The flight to Kuwait from the New Delhi leaves the Indira Gandhi International Airport at 0900 hrs and, on return, leaves the Kuwait International Airport at 0630 hrs.
Similarly, the flight to Bahrain from Mumbai leaves the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport at 0605 hrs and departs from Bahrain International Airport at 2130 hrs.
With a fleet of 75 aircraft, Jet flies to 54 destinations in India and overseas, including New York, New Jersey, Toronto, Brussels, London Heathrow, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Colombo, Bangkok and Kathmandu.
“The airline plans to extend its international operations to other cities in North America, Europe, Africa and Asia in phases by inducting additional wide-body aircraft into its fleet,” a Jet statement said.
