Verdict against ex-MLA in murder case Jan 28

    New Delhi : A Delhi court Wednesday fixed Jan 28 for pronouncing the verdict in a murder case against former Uttar Pradesh legislator Udai Bhan Singh.

    The former legislator is facing trial with five others on charges of criminal conspiracy, murder, attempt to murder and intimidation.

    Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Special Judge V.K. Gupta, who was scheduled to pass order Wednesday, has deferred it till Jan 28.

    Besides Udai Bhan Singh, others facing trial in the case are Sandeep Singh, Ashok Mishra, Raj Nath Mishra, Mabud Khan and Vishal Singh.

    The prosecution alleged that Udai Bhan, in complicity with others, entered into a criminal conspiracy to eliminate Rakesh Pandey, an eyewitness, before the latter could give evidence in court against them in the murder case of Vakeel Shukla and two others in Gopiganj.

    Pandey was allegedly shot dead by Santosh Singh Feb 17, 2003. Santosh Singh and other two accused, Vinod Kumar Singh and Bashir Khan, died during the pendency of the trial and another accused, Kallu, was declared as a proclaimed offender.

    Currently serving life sentence in the Shukla murder case, Udai Bhan is lodged in Fatehgarh Jail in Uttar Pradesh.
