Munnar demolition drive: Mammootty’s land inspected

Munnar (Kerala) : Malayalam superstar Mammootty's landholding near Munnar Tuesday came under the scanner of a special team tasked to evict encroachers from the popular hill station.

Land records show that Mammootty and his family own a 50.72-acre plot of land at Kallar, 15 km from Munnar.

The plot comes under the Cardamom Hill Reserve (CHR), and the rules stipulate that it can be bought and sold but there can be no felling of trees and no type of construction activities can take place on it.

"At first sight it appears some violations have taken place, but more scrutiny has to take place," Suresh Kumar, who heads a three-member Special Task Force, told reporters.

Mammootty reportedly purchased this land a decade back. In a statement last week, he said he had not violated any law.

The Special task Force, which started its demolition drive earlier this month, has razed down nearly three dozen resorts and hundreds of acres of land has been taken back by the government.
