On a day-long trip to the state, he addressed a convention of a faction of the Kerala Pulaya Maha Sabha here.

Modi, speaking in Hindi, talked at length about social reformers like Sree Narayana Guru and Ayyankali, who both worked for the uplift of the downtrodden here.

“For six decades, it was one family that made all the decisions and that’s going to change and very soon all the decisions that would be made would be for the entire families of the nation,” said Modi, which was received with a loud applause.

“Hundred days from now, there is going to be a change in government at the centre and I assure you that all your aspirations will come true,” he added.

Ever since the date of Modi’s visit was announced, there was speculation about Christian bishops from various denominations calling on him, as desired by the Gujarat chief minister.

But barring two bishops from the Orthodox Church, no one else turned up to meet Modi.

And the two who called on him were the present diocesan bishop of the Ahmedabad diocese and the former bishop who headed the church there. They later said it was purely a private visit.

Modi ended his speech in Malayalam thanking all those who turned up to hear him and assured them that all their problems would be addressed very soon.

Later in the day, he would reach the state capital Thiruvananthapuram and might launch the Lok Sabha poll campaign of his party in the state.
