Kolkata : Left Front legislators staged a walk out from the West Bengal assembly here Wednesday protesting against the speaker’s refusal to allow opposition leader Surjya Kanta Mishra to read out the entire text of an adjournment motion.
As Mishra was reading the adjournment motion on the state’s law and order situation, his microphone was switched off, following which the legislators left their seats and started protesting.
They displayed placards that contained cartoons depicting how lawmakers who cross voted during the recent Rajya Sabha elections were traded like cattle.
After some time they walked out and raised slogans in the lobby condemning the government.
However, they returned to the house after a while.
Five lawmakers – three from the Left Front and two from the Congress – cross voted in favour of Trinamool candidate Ahmed Hasan Imran in the Feb 7 elections.
Imran won and A.S. Malihabadi, an independent supported by the Congress and the Left Front, bit the dust.
