Key Taliban commander killed in Afghanistan

Kabul : Afghan forces have killed key Taliban commander Mullah Shirin Agha and four others, police said Wednesday.

“Security forces launched an operation against rebels in Chardara district, in the northern Kunduz province, 250 km north of Kabul, Tuesday night which led to the killing of five rebels including notorious Taliban commander Mullah Shirin Agha this (Wednesday) morning,” Xinhua reports citing the statement of deputy provincial police chief Abadullah Talwar.

He also said that Agha was involved in anti-government activities over the past few years and his elimination is a major blow to the Taliban militants.

A police constable was killed and two others injured in the operation, which lasted for a few hours.
