Saudi killer of Indian man a drug addict

Riyadh : A Saudi youth arrested in connection with the brutal murder of an Indian expatriate on a local street was found to be under the influence of drugs at the time he committed the crime, the police has said.

The police said the 32-year-old killer was an unmarried Saudi male, who had earlier been convicted on drug charges and domestic violence against his parents, Arab News reported Thursday.

“He tested positive for narcotics upon investigation,” Fawaz Al-Maiman, Riyadh police spokesman, said.

Meanwhile, the man has been referred to the Al-Amal rehab facility before the case is investigated further.

Commenting on the incident, the police said the unemployed man went to the grocery shop where he saw the victim sitting alone.

“The accused approached the Indian worker and tried to stab him. The worker fled the shop, but the man followed him and stabbed him four times,” the police added.

The man was arrested soon after committing the murder Monday with the knife still in his hand.

The victim was an Indian national employed in a grocery store on Hamza Bin Abdul Muttalib Street in Al-Areeja district of Riyadh, a short distance from where he was attacked.

A local resident recorded the incident and uploaded the footage on YouTube. It shows the Saudi man walking near the lifeless body lying on the street and then stabbing it again.
