New Delhi: In an Okhla village land case (Suit No.2/14) pertaining to the State of Uttar Pradesh v/s Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi, the Hon’ble Supreme Court has modified the maintenance of status quo that will facilitate the process of acquisition of about 107 bighas and 7 biswas of prime land to the benefit of Jamia Millia Islamia.
A total of 107 bighas and 12 biswas of land shall remain under judicial restrainment. The State of Uttar Pradesh through its counsel had made a special mention before the learned judges seeking withdrawal of the modified order on the ground that the entire land of 214 bighas and 19 biswas was owned by them.
The learned bench refused to intervene and asked the Counsel for the State of Uttar Pradesh to move an appropriate application to determine its maintainability as per law even as it refused to grant liberty to them to move such an application.
The grant of the prime land shall enable the university to actualize its developmental plans in near future.
