New Delhi : Delhi Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung Monday directed the city government officials to complete desilting work by the end of May and initiate action against those illegally dumping waste materials before the monsoon arrives.
In a review meeting to get an update on the city’s preparedness for the monsoon, Jung instructed the civic agencies to increase and improve the number of telephone lines in the control rooms to tackle calls related to water-logging.
He also instructed the staff that operate pumps which drain out water from inundated roads to remain available round the clock.
“He instructed the Delhi Metro to not dump waste material at their construction sites and asked the BSES and TPDDL (power distribution companies) to ensure that roads and streets are not dug up during the monsoon season,” a statement said.
Jung directed the officials to take strict action against those who illegally dump garbage and waste at unauthorised sites in the city.
The Lt. Governor would review the status of all the work done in the first week of June.
Stressing the need to keep the city’s subways clean and secure, Jung instructed the Public Works Department (PWD) as well as the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) to auction the over 100 shops lying vacant in 39 subways of the city.
