New Delhi : Former Bangladesh prime minister Sheikha Hasina is planning to visit the United States for medical treatment, following deterioration in her health while in custody.
“Hasina’s eyes and ears could face serious damage and she needs intensive treatment,” one of Bangladeshs leading English daily New Age reported Sunday quoting Dr Syed Modasser Ali, one of the four physicians attending on her.
Hasina, 61, had failed to attend the court proceedings last week, owing to bad health. Ali said Hasina would probably get the best treatment in the United States.
A team of doctors met Law Advisor in the Bangladesh government Mainul Hosein, who had asked them to make a formal appeal with the countrys home ministry to take her abroad, the New Age said. Hasina is in custody following allegations of corruption against her while in power during 1996-2001. She has termed the charges against her as baseless.
