Ahmedabad: Communal clashes erupted on Sunday night in Ahmedabad as the angry mobs from two communities set on fire several shops and vehicles and pelted stones at each other during the clashes.
Police had to fire tear gas to break up clashes between Hindu and Muslim mobs, according to the officials. According to Ahmedabad joint police commissioner Manoj Shashidhar, clashes erupted as the cars belonging to two communities crashed during a wedding celebration.

AFP reported that the incident flared up following a petty argument between people of two communities on Sunday night in Gomtipur area of the city.
The situation is now under control, according to media reports.
The timing of communal clash is crucial as it happened on the eve of the swearing-in ceremony of Narendra Modi. What is surprising is that although the clashes happened on Sunday night, except AFP no Indian news papers or TV media reported the incident.
