Baghdad : Two U.S. soldiers were killed in separate bomb attacks in Iraq this weekend, the U.S. military said on Sunday.
One soldier was killed on Sunday when his vehicle was hit by a bomb explosion in southern Baghdad, the military said in a statement. Three others were wounded in the attack.
The U.S. soldiers were on patrols along with the Iraqi army and police “in order to disrupt terrorist and extremist elements operating in this section of the Iraqi capital,” the statement said.
On Saturday, a U.S. soldier succumbed to his wounds in a roadside bomb blast in the volatile province of Diyala, the military said in a statement.
The names of the deceased are being withheld pending notification of next of kin, the statement said.
The latest deaths bring the number of U.S. soldiers who have been killed in Iraq to about 3,910 since the Iraq war broke out in March 2003, according to media count based on Pentagon figures.
