Cairo : Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa is due to start a diplomatic mission in Lebanon on Wednesday to try push for implementation of an Arab conciliation plan to end the political crisis.
The special envoy of the secretary-general in Lebanon, Ambassador Hisham Yousef, said in a statement to KUNA on Tuesday that Moussa would conduct immediate and intensive contacts with leaders of the warring parties upon his forecast arrival in the Lebanese capital.
Arab officials at their recent ministrial meeting declared a multi-article plan to resolve the Lebanese crisis, marked with failure of re-electing a new president and a campaign by the opposition camp to have larger share in power.
Yousef said Moussa’s planned contacts would be aimed at implementing the Arab plan, namely the call to elect Army Commander General Michel Suleiman as new president, in addition to the call for formation of a national unity government.
The camp of the opposition and the loyalists have already agreed on Suleiman as a “consensus president,” but have been bickering on sharing in the executive leadership.
