Anti-government protests continue in Pakistan

Islamabad : The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) and the Pakistan Awami Tehrik (PAT) continued protests in Islamabad for the fourth day Sunday, demanding Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s resignation, media reported.

Despite inclement weather and low turnouts, both PTI chairman Imran Khan and PAT chief Tahirul Qadri have so far stood firm on the demand, Dawn online reported.

Imran Khan claimed that the 2013 elections were rigged and that Sharif has a “fake mandate”.

He also demanded that fresh elections be held to Pakistan’s parliament.

The march started Thursday from the eastern city of Lahore and the marchers arrived in Islamabad in nearly 40 hours.

The government deployed around 30,000 security personnel, including army troops, to ensure security for the capital city.
